The primaries are underway and the presidential election is just 7 months away, with education policy at the forefront of the primary debates.
The current administration has represented a gravitational shift in policy. In just the last year the Department of Education led by Betsy DeVos has: warned of a rising threat to free speech on college campuses, proposed sweeping changes to Title IX regulations that deal with campuses’ handling of sexual misconduct allegations, proposed changes to student loan rules implemented during the Obama administration, relaxed regulation of the for-profit sector including some institutions’ attempts to convert to non-profit status, restored federal recognition to ACICS (a for-profit college accreditor), and much much more.
How is the landscape expected to change going forward, especially with the upcoming election? What are the opportunities for accelerated innovation in higher education and beyond?
