Iulian Serban is the co-founder and CEO/CTO of Korbit Technologies (www.korbit.ai), an EdTech startup aiming to democratize education through AI tutors powered by deep learning, reinforcement learning and natural language processing. Serban's vision of a personal AI tutor for everyone will help university students and young professionals around the world to learn faster and better in a cost-effective way. Serban's startup has already helped teach thousands and is now partnering with several universities and leading technology companies to advance the AI tutoring system. Born in Denmark to immigrant parents from Romania, the young entrepreneur travelled around the world to complete his education. Serban was an exchange student at Hong Kong University while in his 3rd year studying theoretical mathematics and statistics at Copenhagen University, and later he received his Masters in machine learning from University College London. He recently finished his PhD in machine learning under Professor Yoshua Bengio and Professor Aaron Courville at Mila (Quebec's Artificial Intelligence Institute) and University of Montreal after having won several research awards and received over 3,000 scientific citations. Prior to his PhD, Serban also worked as a full-time volunteer and board member at the education-focused non-profit Operation A Day's Work (www.od.dk) and with the Think Tank Cevea to model socio-temporal aspects of poverty in the European Union. His international and entrepreneurial learning journey has shaped his belief that education is the fundamental pillar of human society and this drives his commitment to apply his AI expertise to transform education.
