Gary W. Matkin, Ph.D. has been Dean of Continuing Education at UC Irvine since March 1, 2000. In October 2017, Dr. Matkin was additionally appointed Vice Provost for Career Pathways when the former UCI Career Center was renamed the Division of Career Pathways. The two units he oversees have a combined budget of $45 million. The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) offers 2,400 courses a year to approximately 50,000 students, and includes several community programs such as the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The Open Learning Initiative reaches millions of students each year through several open education channels including MOOCs.
