Dr. Erica Lewis is an educator and nurse innovator. She instructs classes at James Madison University in the School of Nursing and in the JMU Xlabs. Erica is an expert in applying design thinking, and other problem understanding techniques, in healthcare and community settings. She co-designed/instructed both Medical and Community Innovations at JMU, courses aimed at bringing students together in a transdisciplinary way to address wicked problems such as the addiction crisis and human trafficking. Dr. Lewis coordinates with community and government agencies, and professional mentors, to work with students in the JMU Xlabs courses. She trained at the Stanford d.School and is a Certified Hacking for Defense instructor. Dr. Lewis has a history in bioethics and instructs the ethics of novel bio-medical technologies in JMU xlabs courses.
