Dmitriy Katsel is a Film/Media Studies Graduate from UC Santa Barbara, where he launched Spring Theory to bring experiential learning to campus. Upon graduating, he discovered a deeper and broader need to connect companies with universities in experiential learning projects and began the work of scaling Spring Theory across the entire country. Initially, experiential learning was seen as a nice activity for students by universities but over the years this practice has emerged to be in the top 3-5 investment priorities at the provost-level, paving the way for exponential growth. Likewise, companies have begun to internalize the need for seeking outside perspectives on innovation, data, engineering, sustainability, and strategic projects, which enables us to meet the demand set by university interest. These two parallel trends take place in a context where companies are also experiencing a challenge in matching positions with skilled workers, something that experiential learning helps to bridge.
