Before joining AAC&U Dr. Flagel held a Senior Fellowship with the National Research Center for College and University Admissions, and served for over seven years as Chief Enrollment and Student Affairs Officer as Senior Vice President at Brandeis University. Prior to Brandeis he was Dean and Associate Vice President at George Mason Univ. where he created and chaired the Bachelor of Applied Science, the Washington Youth Journalism Conference, and the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment. His Ph.D. dissertation from Michigan State was the first national study of transfer admission policies. He previously led access and workforce efforts at UM-Flint, and started his career at GW. He researches and writes on a wide range of issues, especially related to access to and the transformation of higher education.
